Shrek Super Party

Shrek is one of the most popular characters conjured up by any storyteller in the history of children’s tales. He rivals the great wonders of tales for kids and he is sure to be a dominating force in entertaining little ones for years to come. My niece is an absolute fanatic for the ogre, and I recently attended a Shrek super party for her second birthday.

The toddler was surrounded by ogres and magical characters that simply delighted her. However, I wondered if the Shrek super party was really for her. My brother-in-law was enthralled by the decorations and fun activities and he spent quite a bit of time preparing for the event.

One would think that a little girl’s mother would have her hands on everything when it came to her daughter’s second birthday, but my brother-in-law decorated everything, except for the cake. He had the cake special ordered to fit the Shrek super party theme. It was magnificent and I think that he enjoyed it as much as my niece.

Somehow I imagined boys being more drawn to an ogre than girls, but my niece is in love with the Shrek movies and all of the characters, especially the big, green ogre. She kept running around saying something about bugs and teeth. My sister explained that Shrek brushed his teeth with bug guts then she offered me a gummy worm. I politely declined her impish offer.

The gummy worms were an added detail to the Shrek super party that brought the entire theme together. Everything matched. The plates, cups and napkins were adorned with the ogre’s less than adorable face, but that didn’t stop me from enjoying every bite of Shrek cake that was presented on the decorated plates.

Every detail was perfect for the Shrek super party and it was, for lack of a better term, super. The entire occasion was light-hearted and fun, even for the adults, especially the ones with a sense of humor. We had a wonderful time and I wondered if they would be able to top the party next year. A Shrek super party is a difficult act to follow.

The best thing about the special birthday bash was the present my brother-in-law chose for my niece. He gave her Shrek Super Party board game. She may not be able to understand how to play it yet, but it promises to bring her a lot of joy and fond memories in the future.
